Opportunities to Contribute
Hey Gang. Happy Thorium Thursday!
If you've been hankering to get started with contributing to Thorium Nova, I've got a handful of "Help Wanted" issues that I just published, all related somewhat to the damage reports system I recently wrote about.
- Create torpedo definitions with alternative damage types - this one is good for folks who don't really know how to code.
- Create UI for choosing what system is being targeted - A little trickier and involved, but I can help if you get stuck.
- Toggle the offline state of ship systems based on their efficiency
- Add the "Stability" damage metric behavior
- Add the "Spontaneous Failure" damage metric behavior
- Add the "cascade risk" damage behavior
There are a few other "Help Wanted" issues that might be interesting or fun:
- Allow the crew to create systems monitor presets, which automatically set the power in the systems
- Core dice
- Core Effects Control
- Automatically un-target ships if they leave targeting range
- Implement hull and shield strength display
- Systems monitor should display a maxSafePower line
- Shield efficiency should affect shield power
- Revamp power defaults for Thorium Default plugin ship systems - this one also doesn't require any coding
- Cargo control search improvements
- Show inventory temperature on the cargo transfer screen
- Timer core + timer widget
If you're interested in working on any of these, let me know and I can get you assigned. I'm more than happy to provide support, give more context about individual issues, and give code reviews. If you're just learning to code, this is a great opportunity to get your feet wet in a low stakes, low pressure environment where you'll get good feedback.
Finally, if you can't contribute with code, you are welcome to contribute financially. The Thorium Open Collective is a non-profit which accepts donations to support Thorium's development. It's very open - you can see all of the donations and all of the expenses. If you've got a few bucks, feel free to send them our way.
In any case, your support is greatly appreciated. Take care of yourselves!
