Thorium Nova - Flight Director Meeting
Hey Gang. Happy Thorium Thursday!
I'll be honest, I forgot to write a newsletter for last week, but that doesn't mean progress hasn't been made. There have been lots of great discussions happening, including this one about missions. We also met virtually 2 weeks ago and had a great discussion about using node graph editors such as https://flume.dev to compose missions. This provide a great balance between powerful configuration and ease of use. Sometime soon I'll write a longer blog post about how missions will be implemented.
Other discussions include one animated DMX lighting, and this one about ship classifications and icons.
I also started this discussion about the role of Flight Directors, which ties into the next virtual meeting.
That's right, we'll be meeting virtually again This Tuesday, November 2nd at 6:30pm ET (note the time zone). Anyone is welcome to join! Here's the Zoom link and the agenda.
- Flight Directors
- Summarize this blog post on UIs https://nickarner.com/notes/some-thoughts-on-interfaces-october-24th-2021/
- Discuss the Flight Director screen for Thorium Classic
- Discuss how to simplify the Flight Director screen for Thorium Nova
- What should stay?
- What should be added?
- What should be removed?
- What should be changed?
- How can we make it easy + still powerful.
- Discuss whether complicated Flight Director controls are still a viable option They might be, if there is sufficiently good automated missions for most players to enjoy.
- Other topics of interest, as suggested.
I hope to see you there!
In terms of development, I've been working more on the documentation pages for developers, added an embedded search feature, and have been working on the plugin infrastructure. Once plugins are working, I plan to make it so you can create ships with stations and cards. At that point, development on actual cards can begin in earnest. Exciting times!
As always, thanks for being part of this community. If there is anything you want to discuss or propose in Thorium Nova, feel free to start a discussion. We would love to hear from you!
